The Sanibel-Captiva Rotary Club is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Dick Traucht University of Florida Rotary Scholarship which was named in honor of Mr. Traucht a founder of the Sanibel Rotary Club. The Bill Angst Florida Gulf Coast University Scholarship was named in honor of Mr. Angst a former president of the Sanibel Water Commission Board. Both of these late Rotarians were past presidents of the Sanibel Rotary Club and were very active in the community and the Club.
These two scholarships are available to students who will attend the University of Florida or Florida Gulf Coast University during the 2007-2008 academic year. Students who meet the qualifications outlined below and wish to considered for these two scholarships are encouraged to download an application of their choice from this page. Due date for the 2007-2008 year is May 1, 2007 (or until scholarship has been awarded; applicant interview date is May 3rd at 5 to 9PM). An application for the Dick Traucht Scholarship may also be obtained from the University of Florida Office for Student Financial Affairs website at: http://www.sfa.ufl.edu/pub/forms.html#apps.
The amount of the scholarship will be governed by the annual budget of the Sanibel-Captiva Rotary Trust Fund. No scholarship will be less than $3000 annually, and will be disbursed in increments of $1500 per semester (fall/spring). The scholarship may be renewed for up to the fourth year of college to students who maintain superior scholastic performance.
In order to be considered for the scholarship, a student must meet all of the following requirements:
- Applicant must be a high school senior in good standing. Preference will be given to students attending a Lee County public or private high school and who resides on Sanibel or Captiva Islands. An individual living in Lee County, with one of his/her parents or relatives who are employed fulltime on either island, is considered a resident for scholarship awards.
- Applicant must have at least “B” average (or recognized equivalent) for grades nine through eleven.
- Applicant must attend the University of Florida or Florida Gulf Coast University to receive and maintain the scholarship.
- Applicant must qualify for need-based financial assistance as determined through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- Applicant must be involved in community service activities.
- Applicant for the Dick Traucht Scholarship must agree to enroll in a business ethics course, as determined by the University of Florida and approved by the state of Florida.
